Conducting From The Grave formed in the fall of 2003 from members and ex-members of local Sacramento bands With Passion, Promising Tomorrow and others. By mid 2004 a solid line-up had been established: John Abernathy on guitar, Gregory Donnelly (formerly of Promising Tomorrow) on drums, Jeffrey Morgan (formerly of With Passion) on guitar, Philip Williamson on bass, and Shaun Gier (at-the-time guitarist of With Passion) on vocals. In October 2004 Conducting From The Grave released their first recording; a 4-song demo entitled "Breathe The Blackened Sky." In early 2005 Shaun had to leave the band to dedicate more time to his other band (With Passion) who had just signed to Earache Records. Shaun was quickly succeeded by new vocalist Drew Winter. By this time they had established a significant following in Northern California and were ready to hit the studio in preparation for the April 2005 release of their debut EP, "Trials Of The Forsaken." Conducting From The Grave spent the summer of '05 touring the US in support of the release. When the band returned home Phil Williamson decided to leave the band to pursue other personal interests. In the following weeks Conducting From The Grave decided to part ways with Drew Winter as well. In the process of searching for new members the band discovered that Jeff's previous band, With Passion, had also recently suffered a severe loss of members. Due to the bands having shared some of the same members in the past, John Abernathy, Jeff Morgan, and Greg Donnelly decided to join With Passion and begin writing for their upcoming release on Earache Records...
...Two years later, John, Jeff and Greg decided to leave the ever-struggling band With Passion. Along with Drew, the guys agreed to reunite Conducting From The Grave. Steven Lovas, who had joined With Passion just a few months earlier, became the new bass player for the band. CFTG fully reunited and received a very warm welcome back in November 2007. They resumed touring in early 2007. After just a few weeks on the road Drew Winter quit the band due to personal reasons. John and Steven covered the vocals for the remainder of the dates booked. As soon as the band returned home they recruited Lou Tanuis (formerly of Through The Eyes of the Dead, Invocation of Nehek, On Paths of Torment) on vocals, and in July '07 flew him out to Oakland, CA to join Conducting From The Grave in recording their first full-length album, "When Legends Become Dust," set to be released on Sumerian Records.
Currently at home, this Nor-Cal 5 piece is writing a follow up album set to be released the Summer of 2010; Followed by a fresh touring regimen!
